Questions about this item:
Shopper Does this dive computer come with a warranty ? How long ?
Shopper What else would I need to buy to use this computer. Dive maybe 20 times a year. No sure advantage to be able to download to a computer and what is the concern about being wireless?
Nancy
RHONDA S I am unable to answer this question; I just moved and during the move the computer was lost and unfortunately it was never used.
GENRUNDYNE A I have not used the feature to download the information off my dives, so I won't be very helpful in this respect. In regards to buying any thing extra to use this, I've not purchased anything extra. As far as being wireless, it will gauge depth and time, which is all I really use it for. I still use a manual gauge for air to assess and I wear a dive watch as a back up for time & depth. This computer will allow you to change out the battery. It comes with a key & you can purchase the battery from anywhere. This computer is easy.
EDWARD M It's a great computer. Nothing else is needed. Just wear it on your wrist. Connection to a commuter is not necessary, nor really useful for basic sport diving.
A satisfied customer.
Shopper does this dive computer come with a wrist band or is that an extra item?
CLAY S It does come with a very large wrist band. ou can cut it off if you need to.
JOANNE M yes it does come with a wrist band, that one can cut to your size.
JAMES G The wrist band you see in the photo does come attached. It is ready to strap on and go. Good computer. I have a lot of dives on mine.
MELVIN M Comes with large wristband.
Colleen H My husband had a very conservative computer that beeped all the time. I understand the risks.. this is just a question. Does the Audible Alarm have a volume control? Can the Audible be turned off?
JOHN E The alarm feature does not have a volume control but it is normally not too irritating. The alarm feature can be turned off.
RIOBIN D Some alarm features CAN be turned-off and some NOT.
The folllowing can NOT be turned-off.
A short single beep occurs, when:
- the dive computer is activated.
- when the dive computer automatically returns to the TIME mode.
Three single beeps with a two second interval occurs, when:
- the no-decompression dive turns into a decompression stop dive.
Continuous beeps for 5 seconds occur, when:
- the maximum allowed ascent rate, 10 m/min [33 ft/min], is exceeded.
- the Mandatory Safety Stop ceiling is exceeded.
- the decompression ceiling depth is exceeded.
The following CAN be turned-ff.
You are able to preset alarms before the actual dive. The user programmable alarms can be set for maximum depth and dive time.
The alarms activate when:
- The preset maximum depth is reached
- The preset dive time is reached
OXYGEN ALARMS IN NITROX MODE
Three double beeps for 5 seconds occur, when:
- the OLF bar graph reaches 80%
Continuous beeps for 3 minutes occur, when:
- the set oxygen partial pressure limit is exceeded.
JACOB R The Zoop is a conservative dive computer. It does not have a volume control for the audio beeps. I don't find this a problem, though.
Judy M Trying to determine how close to the dive tables this computer is...What is the dive plan on first dive of day at 60 feet, 70 feet and 80 feet?
JEFF B 50, 36 and 28 no deco time.
BRIAN D I don't know the answer right off, but I can tell you from experience that it is more conservative than the tables. This is Jane, Brian's wife. It is my first wrist computer and I love it. Brian has a more advanced one and they match info very good.
Judy M All are more conservative than table these days. Trying to determine how much. If you scroll through dive plans for first dives, what time does it give you at those depths?
Shopper Does this watch has back lite?
JOHN G no. However it is very easy and clear to read. I wear glasses for reading, however when diving I do not where a corrective lens, and have no problem reading the face. This is a very easy dive computer to learn and use. No buttons to push while diving - everything you need is available in the dive mode which is activated upon entering the water. I dive primarily in the Caribbean at all depths - the water is clear. Cant say how easy it would be on a night dive or lake diving (a dive light would serve the purpose)
JOHN E First of all this is not a watch...it is a dive computer and a very fine one. It does not have a back-lit screen but the only time you would need one is on a night dive. When you shine your dive light on the face of this computer the face glows because of a luminescent surface and then it can be read for several minutes. This does not require a drain on the battery like a back-light mechanism does and the battery life is increased because of this feature.
MATTHEW B No backlight. It does have a luminescence backing though. So on night dives just shine your light at it for a few seconds and it glows lightly blue for many minutes. It works pretty good
MATT W This computer does not have a back light but it does glow if you shine a light on it. Great computer, i have 2 of them, one for work and one for recreation. If you want. Suunto with a light you have to go atleast one model up like the cobra.
WELLINGTON L No it has no back light. However it does have a glow in the dark back, which you can charge with your flashlight.
The glow in the dark works good, not great. It is better than a backlight in my opinion.
For me I never used the back light button on my old computer (suunto mosquito), since if your diving at night you have a flashlight in your hand and you would simply point the light at the computer to see. Otherwise you'd have to hit a button to activate the back light which was harder (and pointless) with a flash light in your hand.
Shopper Does this dive computer adjust to altitude?
GENRUNDYNE A I honestly do not know if this adjusts to altitude.
NANCY G Technically yes, but you have to manually set it. On the back of the computer you will find a sticker that tells you the altitudes for each of the three altitude settings. To change the altitude setting on the computer, you have to go to Mode > Set > Set Adj. You will then see an "A0," this is the default altitude setting; to change it, just press either "Plan" or "Time" to select either "A0," "A1," or "A2."
Shopper Is the battery for this product a "lithium-ion battery"?
CHRIS W 3 Volt CR2450 lithium battery
Bill P This answer was submitted by John Everett
The ZOOP uses an easy to find, inexpensive, user changeable lithium-ion "button cell" battery. We use the ZOOP almost every day and the battery seems to last approximately 700 to 800 dives. These computers never shut down because they are used constantly. We use several of the ZOOP computers in our rental/classroom at my dive resort and find them 100% reliable. They have to be the best computer on the market and a real bargain!
Shopper Can it also be used as a regular wrist watch when not diving and can a shorter band be put on?
ROGER G A great dive computer, but too big for a wrist watch. I believe you can cut the band so you don't have so much extra flapping around.
WARREN D Technically it can be used as a regular wrist watch, but the front screen automatically shuts off after several minutes of inactivity. You would have to click to show the screen. Keep in mind that the face is quite large compared to other wrist watches (6cm diameter)
You can replace the band with a shorter one.
JOSEPH A I do not own the zoop anymore, I did not like the computer. But if I can remember right. you cannot use it as a wrist watch and the band is not interchangeable.
KEVIN K It could be, but it's probably way too bulky for that. Its size is good for diving, but too big to be a watch.
JAMES G Yes it can. It has a time mode that it reverts to. Also, I just cut my band along the ridges so the end is rounded and it does not have so much extra band. The band is made long to suit your diving style. Tropics w/ no wetsuit or Cold water w/ a dry suit. I dive only tropical warm water so I cut mine band off to fit on my arm.
BTW, it is awfully big to wear as a watch every day. But when on a dive trip, I do wear it for a watch on dive days.
STEPHEN V This unit is strictly a dive computer. It is much larger than Suunto's wrist watch/dive computers. Also, the unit will go to sleep if left alone and will require rebooting. Having said this, it is a great computer.
GREG B It dial is much larger than a regular wrist watch so I would suggest it be used as a dive computer/watch only.
EDWARD C I suppose it could but it is very large. I'm not sure about a smaller band.
Shopper My wife and I currently each have Cobra 3 dive computers. We're seeking a pair of wrist-mounted computers to use as back-up units. Does the Suunto Zoop use the same arrhythmic table(s) and have the same customization opportunities as the Cobra 3? (Essentially we're wanting wrist-worn back-ups that calculate their reports the same way our Cobra 3s calculate theirs.)
betsy w I have no idea and that is a pretty specialized question. I might suggest that you research the companies sales lit. I do know that sometimes the algorithms that are used are in their literature.. sorryl
LESLIE H I have a Cobra, and use this as a back up. It's the same algorithm. I'm pretty sure that all Suunto dive computers use the RGBM algorithm. This is a great computer.
Tony P will the zoop fit in a console that originally was used for the gekko?
JACOB R Hi Tony
Since I am using this as a wrist backup computer, I can't answer your question. My primary computer is an Aeris, which is console mounted, and I have no other Suunto dive gear.. Sorry, but I don't know.
CHET L The dimensions are identical between the Gekko and the Zoop:
Dimensions and weight:
- Diameter: 61mm [2.4in].
- Thickness: 28mm [1.1in].
- Weight: 68g [2.4 oz].
So, you shouldn't have a problem using a Gekko console with a Zoop.
GENRUNDYNE A I do not know. I've never had the gekko and the zoop has it's own housing to begin with.
marjorie d What type of battery does it take so I can buy a spare? The battery listed in the Zoop accessories ("3 Volt CR-2450 Battery for Some Dive Computers") doesn't list the Zoop as one of the compatible computers .
LESLIE H The battery is not designed to be replaced by the user. I have had my Suunto batteries replaced by my local dive shops. Suunto sells a "kit" which includes the new battery and replacement seal.
JOSEPH A Sorry, I bought the computer and did not like the set up and thought it was to hard to program. Also other reasons , so I bought a Sherwood profile to buddie up with my Wisdom. Sorry I cannot help you on the battery issue.
Joe
JOHN E The CR 2450 3 Volt battery is the correct one for the ZOOP. We make several hundred dives on a battery so don't be in a hurry to buy a spare. This is a very common battery that is not hard to find.
jjeremy j Does this computer come with a battery ?
Thanks
JOSEPH M Yes it does come with a battery and ready to go. I have already dove many times with it.I have a second Suunto that has many dive and is 4 years old. have only replaced the battery once. A great buy!!!!
Thanks
Joe
RICK L Yes, the Suunto Zoop is shipped with an installed battery.
STEVEN S YES
And detailed use
JOHN C Yes it comes with a battery in it and is ready to go when you get it. Very good computer.
LESLIE H Yes, and i've dived with it for more than 30 dives and it's still good. It has a read out when you first turn it on, that tells how much battery power is left. After more than 30 dives it's still almost full.
WELLINGTON L Yes it does it comes with everything you need to go diving right away.
ROBERT F Yes, it comes with a factory installed battery.
ROGER G Yes, it does come with a battery.
JAMES G Yes it does. I comes with a battery installed. I recommend buying a new battery, I got one for $3.75, and putting it with your dive gear. Then if you are ever on a trip and the LOW shows up in the display, you can make it through the trip with a great computer.
Shopper People - I don't mean to sound critical - but you need to read the item description ad - it states that this computer DOES NOT include the PC Interface Cable/Software and also makes not statement about being a wireless transmitter unit! C'mon guys - it's $300 not $900! You generally only see wireless units if the price range 3 times this item! ?????
betsy w does this dive computer come with the accessories to download data to your computer or is that interface extra?
MATTHEW B However there are third party makers of usb cables that work for this
JOE T It does not come with any accessories to download data to your computer.
TONY H The usb interface is extra.
STEVEN S I believe the interface is extra
JOHN C No it does not, you have to purchase it seperately.
STUART E The wire required for the interface is not included.
JOSEPH A When I bought the computer two years ago, it only comes with what you see in the picture and directions. So I dont think they have put the around eighty dollar cable with it. The online class is O.K.
betsy w what is the dimensions for the height and width of the display??
FRANCIS M approx 1.5 x 1.5 inches. The center horizontal boxed area measures 1.5 x 0.5 inches.
JEFF S Betsy
The wrist mounted Zoop is approx 1" in height and 2 1/2" in diameter. The actual readable display is about 1 3/4" in diameter and very easy to read.
FRANK T Betsy, it is about a half-inch tall and inch-wide. Hope this helps!
CARL H outside dimension is about 2.5 inches wide (diameter)
about 1 inch height (thickness)
the actual LCD display is about 1.75 inch wide (diameter)
the center display reading is about .5 inches high for the numbers shown
Monica s Width: 1 3/4"
Hight: 1 1/2"
Shopper Will it hold nitrox settings or does to revert to 21 percent?
ANITA O The computer will hold the nitrox setting until you manually change O2 setting. This was my first computer, and it was relatively easy to operate.
JOHN W It reverts to 21 percent which is what you want. Every tank of nitrox is different and you should set your computer to match the measured O2 immediately after you test the tank.
CHARLES S Greg H is correct. It does not revert back immediately. It stays in the Nitrox mode but reverts back to 21% after approximately 24hours.
CHARLES S It does revert to 21%.
Bill M I suggest you check the manual, which can be found online at the Suunto website. However, I think it holds the nitrox setting until the time all gases have left according to the model. I believe that once you dive Nitrox in a sequence of dives, you stay in the Nitrox mode and set it to air o2 percentage levels within the Nitrox mode if you switch back to air in your tank. It may then reset to air mode after you complete a sequence of dives and the model shows all gases have left you. Regardless, it is a straightforward thing to check when you use it.
STEVEN S I am sorry but I don't dive nitox
GREG H It stays in Nitrox mode, but think it resets to 21 percent after 24 hours out of the water.
Tony F How Does the display look underwater? Low light? Sun light?
WELLINGTON L It's legible, but I much prefer it with the screen protector off.
JEFF B The display looks fine and easy to read to me and I have 'over 40' eyes.
ROGER G We've had no problems with our Zoop readability in any conditions.
THOMAS K Diving normal diving conditions with daylight and good visibility the display is easily readable, looks much like it does in the photo. I have never had a problem reading the display in daytime. At night I use my light to provide whatever illumination in needed.
JOHN W It is easy to read. I have only used it in day conditions down to 106 feet and cannot speak to low light conditions. There is no internal light. The nitrox function is also easy to apply.
Bill M It looks fine in all situations.
JOHN E The display is the best I have ever seen. We use this model and the Gekko in our rental program because of the dependability and user friendly nature of it. It has large print which is easy to read EVEN in low light and the background is luminous for night diving. I have one which has more than 3500 dives on it and NEVER A PROBLEM!!! Since I own a dive resort I have the opportunity to evaluate equipment from all around the world and the Gekko / Zoop is the best!
BRENT R Display reads pretty good. I've only used out in Hawaii, but it did work well in caves and sunset conditions.
JOHN G was able to easily read display. this dive computer is easy to use. We dove turks and caicos with two dive companies. dive computers were manditory. The dive computers they rent out are zoops. our friend was able to learn how to read the display on the way out to dive site. no need to scrolll all info is right there.
ARASH S I've only used it in Cozumel, Mexico and the display is fine during day time. Since it's not backlit, it's not so good during night dives. Although, you can see it with a flash light.
STEVEN S I have found the display fine on overcast and rainy days at 100 feet. I think it is great for the money
Yvette S Will it give you metric display also?
CHARLES S Yes. It has imperial and metric settings.
LINDSEY C yes there is metric display as well
Bill M Yes it does metric units. Just do a Google search for Suunto Zoop manual and you can read all that it does there.
FELICIA B The computer can be set for imperial or metric. Enjoy - www.Goodrollmodel.com
KEVIN P Yes, it can be set for metric.
BRANT T Yep, Metric or imperial
Shopper Does it show temperature?
STEVEN S yes it does show temperature and is very easy to use
CHARLES S Yes this computer show temperature. I shows current temp. in dive mode and records coldest temp. in logbook mode.
MATTHEW J Yes, this dive computer does provide the water temperature.
TIMOTHY P Yes, it shows water temperature. You can choose either C or F.
JOHN W Yes, temperature is displayed in the lower left corner and you can select metric or imperical display. It is also saved as part of the memory/logbook feature for later review. I've dived with mine 7 times and used it for nitrox as well. It's a good simple to use dive computer.
BENJAMIN L Yes. Temperature is displayed in the bottom left corner in "Dive Mode".
DUSTIN S Yes, it will show temperature in both F and C.
BARRY A es it does show temperature. When you press the mode button the temperature is displayed and through your entire dive it is also displayed. It is a very good computer.
THOMAS K Yes. The computer shows the current temp.
KEVIN P Yes, it displays and logs the water temperature.
ROGER G Yes it keeps and displays temperature.
BRANT T Yes. The zoop shows temp
BRANDON A Yes. The Zoop shows temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
FRANK T It records the temperature for your log book and displays the ambient temperature.
EDWARD C It does. It also records the average temp for each dive and saves it in your log.
MARK W Yes, the Suunto Zoop does show the temperature. This is an excellent basic dive computer. You can't go wrong for the price.
ARTHUR E The Suunto Zoop does show temperature. I use it has my backup computer and recommend it.
Shopper Is the transmitter included with this?
LeisurePro S The Zoop is not air integrated. Check out the Vytec DS.
Shopper Does this computer include a computer cable for downloading dive data?
LeisurePro S The PC download kit must be purchased separately, which you can find here for the Zoop.
Warranty Information
This product has a limited warranty of 24 months.
Whats in the box:Online Class, Computer The ZOOP dice computer from Suunto is a wrist-mounted computer that will not only enhance your time under water; it will also help you be a safer diver without breaking the bank. Its ability to operate in two modes (air and Nitrox), safety features (decompression stop data, audible alarms, and easy-to-read display), and simple menus mean the ZOOP will provide critical dive data when it is needed quickly and accurately. It employs the reduced gradient bubble model (RGBM), which is an algorithm developed to calculate decompression stops; this algorithm is a model used to determine how much gas is accumulated during a dive and how much time is required at your safety stop(s) to safely surface. Suunto's ZOOP is PC-compatible, so you can easily store your dive data (up to 50 hours) and logs on a PC. It is activated by water, so you don't have to worry about forgetting to start your computer and losing a single dive's valuable data. Because this computer is wrist mounted, there's never a need to search for your gauge console when you want to check on your depth, maximum bottom time, dive time, and no deco time. All of that information is available at a moment's notice, right on your wrist. In addition, the ZOOP's bright phosphorescent display makes seeing your dive data easy during night and day dives.
