Questions about this item:
SANDRO M which model is this one? the AB2000 or and the AB911?
RYAN M I'm sorry I'm not sure now which model. I didnt even know there was 2 models. It's been over 5 yrs since I got mine.
This device connects to your low pressure inflator hose. Because of the low pressure it doesn't work if you are diving deep. I would not recommend it if you are a tech diver. Shallower diving it will do its job.
Adrian S Is it gonna fit Scubapro Xtek BCD with Scubapro A700/MK25 reg ? Any modifications required?
JOSE Y Air Buddy Alternate air is a great, but you need has trainning to use, I recommended for diver with over advancd level, all of my dive master use it, I'm Instructor Trainer level and we need adapter time to feel good, recomendation create a more soft mouthpieces.
when you have alot practices, then you love it.
DAVID N Your first stage, second stage and BCD are not issues here. What is an issue is if you are using an AIR2. If you're using an AIR2, the Air Buddy will not fit that inflator hose.
You will need a standard size inflator hose in order to attach the Air Buddy to your 1st stage.
One thing that is not discussed until after you get the system is that the schrader valve needs to be removed from the inflator hose prior to installing the Air Buddy. This isn't difficult to do, but keep in mind, if you ever use the inflator hose for a BCD or dryduit, you will have to replace the Schrader valve.
One of the things I like about this system is that it gives me a pneumo line for lift bags and SMB's without having to attach another inflator. This helps me keep my gear streamlined.
ZARING R All I know is that it installed without tools or adaptor on a "normal" low pressure inflator, as on my Zeagle BCD. It is not related to your regulator.
Shopper will it fit Oceanic Oceanpro bc vest lp hose ?
CHAD W It will fit any standard LP inflation hose. It will not fit an Air 2 hose fitting.
JEFF G Yes it's a standard size. Had it 2 yrs now works great..use it to fill safety sausage easily.. Alt air source yes but it doesn't put out a lot of air.. You can breath off it but in a panic situation might not be good
DAVID K It fit my BC just fine. I don't know why it wouldn't fit any BC that uses a regular LP inflator hose.
ZARING R I can't specifically say; I only know it attaches to "standard" bc hoses with no tools or adapters.
V DAVE K I don't have an answer for you for the Oceanic vest. I have mine installed on a Mares Vest and is quite compact, but is hard to use without practice. The small valve must be removed inside the vests inflator and required a longer valve stem remover than a stock one, I modified one with a Dremel tool.
I kinda wish that I would have purchased a compact Octo regulator since I would not feel comfortable giving this to another in an emergency. I would give the other diver my regulator and use this one.
In order to get air from this one you have to bite down on the mouthpiece.
Enjoy Diving - Be Safe!
KEITH A Yes it will fit,Yes it will fit, but you will need to follow manufacturers instructions on removing the
Schrader valve on your BC?s auto inflate hose. You then have to ?zip tie? the quick connect fitting on your air supply so it will not detach, thus making the Air Buddy the quick connect to your BC. If you remove the Air Buddy from your supply hose without replacing the Schrader Valve you will have a free flowing air line. This Air Supply should be used as an emergency back up to your back up Octopus Regulator. If it is to be used as the primary emergency backup, it should be used by the more experienced diver offering your primary to the diver in need. I have placed these on most of my rigs especially my military style horse collar and cave rigs. You will need to practice using the Air Buddy it does take some practice depending on the divers skill level. But I do think they are great as a second or even primary backup and on reducing hoses for dives in close quarters.
Have a Safe Dive !

LANSON R I don't know. Sorry.
Shopper From people who have bought this item do you use this as a primary octo? or is this simply an extra line of defense where you have an octo and this as a backup?
-Thanks!
PETER V When I bought this I intended to use it as an Octo on my vacation rig, but Iscrapped that idea after trying it the first time.
Because of the small size of the BC hose orifice it doesn't flow enough air to breath on normally.
It works ok in shallow water if you stay calm and don't exert yourself, but I don't expect that will be the case if I ever REALLY needed to use my octo. If you were even slightly nervous or trying to fight a current it would never work.
So now it just takes up space in my box of extra scuba crap.
LANSON R Honestly, I intended to use it as an octo replacement. When I tried it out, it didn't have enough airflow to use comfortably. If I were to buy another, I would definitely get the high flow model.
JOSE Y Hi, shopper, I use Air buddy Alternate air source, how a octopus gear, but is very importan know and have practice to use, excellent up level advanced.
RICHARD S The product was good for emergency use, but doesn't supply enough air to use normal. It is a great idea, small compact, and easy to use.
JOE V I would not suggest using it as a primary Octo, it is not the easiest thing to breath with, takes lots of practice. Someone not used to it would most likely panic. Of course this is my personal opinion.
Hope this helps
CAIO S I use as my primary octo, I've practice a few times under water just to be comfortable in an emergency situation. It works OK, takes a little to get comfortable with. Hope it helps.
Kareem M Thanks everyone for the great feedback! its definatley insightful to hear everyone's experiances!
JOHN H My intent when buying this was to use it as my octo. However in an emergency situation I don't believe it is the ideal thing. In theory it works well when everyone is calm. I am still glad I have it and have used it many times to fill lift bags and marker bouy's by squeezing the actuator with my fingers.

MARK S I had TWO Zeagle Octo-Z's over the last 8 years and both have failed. (The Octo-Z is a combination inflator and octopus (alternate air source)). One time it freeflowed and I had to borrow the Captain's rig including BC or my entire trip would have been scrapped. I replaced that Octo-Z and this last time, same thing, so I disconnect the power pressure inflator connection and had to maintain neutral boyancy using oral inflation. So, don't think of buying an Octo-Z!
The air buddy is used as a SIMPLE alternate air source (octopus) which is still inline with the single BC inflator hose. It's quick disconnect so you could remove it in seconds if it causes problems. The manufacturer recommends using the air buddy as your own air source if you need to share air since it is different than a normal regulator operation. If your buddy runs out of air, that's the wrong time to teach them how to breath through this thing. It works just like the bite-valve on a camelback hydration system.
To directly answer your question, it is my primary octo... but then I was diving before alternate air sources were even used! Hope this helps...
BARRY G I use it as my octo to have one less hose to get tangled. However, if used for that purpose, it would serve in an emergency as the primary divers secondary air source, while your 2nd stage would be offered to a diver in distress. The "air buddy" itself takes some practice in non-emergency situations to be ready in an emergency, since it works differently from a normal octo. I prefer to remove the "air buddy" portion and attach my second stage from my octo to the inline part of the AB. That way I have the standard 2nd stage octo, but it's attached to my low pressure inflator.
FRANK V I use It at a primary Octo. I works very well have been diving with it several years, you should practice with it, so you are comfortable if the need to use it arises. I practice with it at least once a season.
ZARING R It is primary. But, per manufacturer's suggestion, I would use the Air Buddy myself, and hand my own second stage to my buddy, because (a) the hose is short and (b) I have practiced with its unfamiliar use.
KEN D I would strictly use it as a backup secondary air source. We use them to suffice L&I regulations but most of my divers carry a primary alternate air source because the ABAAS doesn't breathe very well. It can get you out of a jam but that is about it. You have to bite down on the mouth piece and make sure you sift out any incoming water to the mouth.

JON E I used the AB as my only octo for 250-300 dives. I have since switched to a DIR configuration for my local diving and continue to use the AB with my travel regulator setup. In an emergency, you have to donate your primary and use the Air Buddy yourself. I would practice breathing through the AB for five minutes or so on each dive. They are bulletproof, although they take some practice to use properly.
V DAVE K This is a nice compact unit that takes LOTs of practice to use effectively. I like it because it is small and does not get caught on things as it fits in the BC line.
Because it is difficult to use I would give my normal regulator to my buddy and keep this one for myself. This I use as my Primary Octo -
The only problem was in the installation where you have to remove the extra deep valve core from the BC line. I solved this issue by using my dremel to modify one of my old valve core removers.
Enjoy! Dave
JEFFREY G It could be used as the primary octo, but I use it as a backup.
DAN B Even at shallow depths, I just don't think this can deliver sufficient air for sustained survival. When you are in an emergency situation, you typically are excited, and thus will require extra air. I found this device could not supply sufficient air for even relaxed swimming. I purchased an inflator / reg combo (Mares) and would recommend going that route.
CODY W I use mine as a primary octo, it fit into my budget better than a 'normal' octo and it's a lot more streamline.
Air Buddy is the modern alternate air source. It is the smallest, safest and most convenient alternate air source on the market today. First introduced in 1996, it has become widely used by government agencies, sport divers around the world and commercial diving entities. The Air Buddy gives you 20% more breathing time on a bottle of air than any other alternate air source. The Air Buddy is a miniature regulator second stage from which all the complicated and delicate parts have been removed, leaving only one moving part, the tilt valve. In a normal second stage, inhaling causes the diaphragm to move inward, pressing a lever which opens the needle valve allowing air from the low pressure hose to flow into your mouth. Sea Turtle replaced the needle valve with a heavy duty tilt valve in the Air Buddy. To open the tilt valve in the Air Buddy, you simply squeeze the mouthpiece with a biting movement of your mouth. That releases the air from the low pressure hose, giving you PPAS. Positive Pressure Air Source means that your mouth will be flooded with air at a higher pressure than that of the water around you, no matter what your depth may be, forcing the water out of your mouth and allowing you to breathe. You stop the air by relaxing your pressure on the mouthpiece. The BCD-Air Buddy will mount on any standard size quick connect hose on your buoyancy compensator. It is out of your way until you need it. The BCD-Air Buddy swivels in any direction, so it is just as easy for you as your dive buddy to use. It functions equally well upside down as right side up. To get your supply of breathing air, just bite it gently with your teeth and feel the air flood your mouth. The Air Buddy may be disconnected from the power inflator during use and kept in the mouth to breathe while the power inflator is held over the head to bleed
- Will Not Free-Flow Like Standard Octopus Rigs
- 20% More Breathing Time
- Mounts on BCD QD Hose
- Gently Bite Mouthpiece to Start Air Flow
- Allows Over-the-Head Power Inflator Deflation upon Ascent (Like you learned in Class)
