Questions about this item:
Jeff D Does this light have the same switch issues as the Shockwave II did? I had to replace broken switches in that light 3 times before I tossed it.
STEPHEN H Yes same switch. Also it has lifetime wArranty email Princeton tec they will take care of it
PAUL N Not sure. I haven't had switch problems with any of my Princeton Tec lights.
ERNEST L I had the small plastic switch part break on my older shockwave. I called up princeton tec and they immediately shipped me a repair kit . It took less then 5 minutes to swap in the broken part. No problems since then.
DENNIS B Switches same design, but tougher... I have about 10 of these lights, and had to replace all switches. Princeton was real good about it, they sent me new switches at no cost to me.
I just bought two new units, and am having trouble with O-ring sealing,... one unit has been leaking consistently. I will replace O-ring and hopefully cure my problem. When they do leak, I wash them out with Salt Away.
Lights are good for the price. And so far Princeton has always been there to help. If you are willing to spend more money, the Tektite SeaRay 4 and SeaRay 12 are amazing units.... but cost more..... DB in Kauai
R J I've had no issues so far, but the switch does appear to be similar if not the same.
MAURICE P So far I haven't had any trouble with the light.

JEFFREY K I own two if the led lights and I have had zero switch problems. Several other folks I dive with use these lights too and no switch issues. Great light, very bright, lasts a long time on a set of batteries. Use duracells though, they seem to last longer than other brands
Hope this helps
RALPH C I do not know - I also had a Shockwave II but never experienced issues with the switch on either light.
KEVIN K The only problem I've had with this light is the switch lock. It came off on both lights I own so I have to keep checking to see if it bumped on. Otherwise I'm happy with it.
Shopper Can this light be used both above and below water without burning the led's out?
MARC N I own two of these light and have used them only underwater. I have no experience with them in air. Sorry I can't be more Helpful.

KEVIN K I haven't experienced any LED burnouts with this light over the last 2 years of diving with it. I don't use it out of the water other than checking the operation before a dive. All Ive had to do is replace the batteries and check/grease the o-ring seal.
JEFFREY K I have used this light both in and out of the water with no problem to date. This question should more appropriately be asked of the manufacturer though for an accurate response to how the light was designed. LEDs are typically very reliable and should provide hours of service no matter what environment then are in. That isn't saying this light was designed to be operated out of the water for any extended period of time though. This is a good light and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a dependable and highly reliable primary dive light for recreational diving.
Justin R thank you all for the information. its all been a help. i had just ordered this light and cannot wait to try it out
BARRETT K LED lights run very cool so there's no problem with overheating. I've very rarely needed to use my light out of the water but when I have it's been fine.
JORDAN F Yes, I have used it many times to illuminate the underside of a bridge or a pier without any adverse affects for hours at a time.
MICHAEL H Yes LED lights domt build up heat like halagen lights do . Also they are much more shock proof.
R K M Yes, according to the enclosed literature it can be and is used in both. I myself have used it in and out of the water and have not had any problem. The LED's do not give off any noticeable heat, so burnout should not be a problem.
PAUL N I have not used this particular light out of the water. But my experience with other types of LED lights is that they burn much cooler than incandescent bulbs, so in theory this light might be usable on the surface. Ultimately, the only way to find out would be to determine whether you're willing to gamble the cost of a new light to find out.
BRUCE R LED lights do not generate heat, this light can be used on land and underwater, I use it as often out of the water as underwater, It is the best, brightest light for your money. Light output is equal to the Light Cannon at way less money. The LED lights fully the instant you turn it on, also a plus.

RAYMOND Y I did use mine out of the water a few times. The new LED lights aren't like the old HID lights that would overheat out of the water.

Whats in the box:LED Light, 8 C-Cell Alkaline Batteries and Wrist Lanyard DIVE PINK & FIGHT BREST CANCER! For every Pink light sold $20 will be donated to fight breast cancer.
Shockwave LED Triple Max-Bright LED's combined with Princeton Tec's proprietary optics offer unprecedented brightness and beam smoothness. 400 Lumens of pure brute power is offered with two modes of illumination; high for super bright and low for extended battery life. The light output is calibrated for both close range tasks and spotting at a distance. The Shockwave LED is engineered to be impact resistant and waterproof to 330' (100 meters). Light has 3 Max-Bright 3-Watt LED's that give 16 Hours of Burn Time on the High Power Setting and 26 Hours on Low. Light is equipped with LED Optical Collimator. A collimator gathers all available light from an LED in the form of scattered rays and re-emits the light as parallel rays, making it more optically efficient than a standard reflector. Princeton Tec calibrates each collimator to the type of LED and application of each light. With proprietary optimized collimator / lens systems, Princeton Tec continues to advance LED technology. Princeton Tec has developed proprietary ultra-light heat-sinks to protect LED products from overheating. Even though LEDs operate at much lower temperatures than traditional incandescent bulbs, they still generate heat. If this heat is not dissipated, the LED will suffer irreversible damage. By using heat-sinks, Princeton Tec lights can burn at extreme brightness levels for long periods of time. The heat-sink may be incorporated internally or externally depending on the product and its application. Powered by 8 C-Cell Alkaline Batteries (included), LED Life of 10,000 Hours and weighing 37.92 oz (1,075 g) with batteries, all make this one great dive light. Light is equipped with a Pistol Grip Handle with an Adjustable Rubber Shrouded Wrist Lanyard.
