JAMES R Sarah,
I am a swimmer and have had multiple MP3 players to use while swimming. While this case will protect your iPod from the water, this was not its intended purpose. In my opinion, I believe the case size, and lack of truly waterproof earphones and a waterproof jack, makes this case unsuitable for swimming.
With that said, I love this case for keeping my iPod safe in all kinds of differing environments. It is an awesome case, just not meant for swimming.
This is just my opinion.

ALBERTO S I have tied a floating device to the case to prevent accidental loss of the IPhone in the water.
When submerged, the case has mantained its dry condition down to three meters which is more than enough for me.
