Questions about this item:
I would like to know what the shooting range of this gun is, and how often it needs to be pumped. My idea would be to have this in a bagpack along with my freediving fins. What is the measure of the pump?
KENNETH LEE L I have not used it yet! I smugled it into Malaysia...there is a RM3000.00 tax/licence fee($1000.00) here for this gun, ouch! There is a bag/pouch for this available, but I did not get one...I am going to use a rifle sock to keep it in, once I first use it. Check the accessories button, OK. There is a smaller one that come with a leg holster, too. -KLM-
CHARLOTTE I Hi Felix,
If you're looking for a backpack gun then it would likely meet your expectations. It rarely needs to be pumped and can be pressurized beyond cocking capability for most. It has about 9 feet of line and that surely could be extended. I'm not too impressed with the line feeder as it's a bit hokey and a snarl blew the catch right off the gun. Now I hand hold the line till ready to fire. For a gun this size you'll be shocked at the firing power. Definitely more than I expected and I haven't even gone near max pressure...maybe about half which would hit hard at 15 feet if you add extra line. Worth buying overall.
PATRICK Z It is best for semi clost range; the shaft is short. Good for about 6-8 feet. I use in in close quarter situations like rocks and pilings bc of the short body it's a quick gun which usually makes the difference. The pump is about the length of the gun w/o the trigger piece maybe 18" or so: but I wouldn't worry about it so much as air is compressed each time you load the gun. I had my first pneumatic gun for about 7 years and used it very often; I think I had to pump it up twice in all that time.
JEFF M Hey felix: The gun is good for rock fishing with your freediving, the range I shoot is from 3' for Ling or up to 5-6 for sheepshead etc. I use a longer gun for bigger and deeper. Once you fill the gun with pressure, you rarley have to re-pump. I've shot it alot without pumping. Be carefull with the plastic slide on the spear, the ears break off easy, I would install a shock bungee. Have fun.
DROP SHIP P I have been using this gun for 2 years now. I started spearfishing about 33 years ago, and pleased with this gun. Some small problems, such as the retainer ring, got bent in time, but a 10 dollar replacement. The shooting range underwater is great, a month ago, killed a 3+ ft amberjack at 165 ft depth from 10 ft range. The pump is about 28 inches long. If you will carry it around, get some rubber caps for the rod and the pump. I pump it once a season, or once per flight (must deflate before flights, because of pressure issue). I did take this gun to Gulf of Mexico, Mediterranean, Red sea, Black Sea and Caribbean, all with success.
BARRY G Because of the location and environment where I utilize my gun, I don't shot over 5 to 6 feet. With that being said the fish I shoot are soft and maximum psi would be devastating. As far as the length of the pump it close to the same as the gun. I keep my stuff together in a backpack with my diving equipment.
how will this gun do with travle will it be able to just be put in a suit case and be checked on a plane i ask because a plane is presurized?
KENNETH LEE L Malaysia does not allow these spear guns without a licence fee($1000.00 usd.). I smugled mine in, no problem, at your own risk of confiscation, see! "Have gun, will travel".-KLM-
Monica s You can pack it in your luggage and you should not have any problem mechanically with the gun, depending on the airline they may advise you to let the air out of it, so it would be a good idea to check with your airline and ask regarding this, you may want to explain its fishing equipment as well ;). I have had friends who traveled with their gun, they did not let the air out and had no problems. So I would just check with your airline to make sure they dont give you a hard time.
Can I shoot this gun from my boat, I have access to a private lake that has a lot of trash fish. I'll never use it under water, how will it preform with this kind of use?
LEROY S I wouldn't shoot the gun above water. I believe the manufacturer recomends underwater only. A friend of mine shot his in his driveway and almost stuck himsilf with the recoil from the spear reaching the end of the lanyaird.
JESSE F That's what bow's and arrow's are for. Not spear guns.
JOHN S You can shoot it above water, but not recommended. I haven't used mine very often and I could sell it to you for $125.00 with no tax .
BENJAMIN O No this gun doesn't have enough power to shoot fish from out the water it really only good under water and at a range of two feet any farther and the shaft won't penetrate
WILLIAM S It is not designed to shoot out of the water. You will damage the gun after continued firing above water.
RUSS H You could but you would reck the gun.Buy a band gun instade,a two band gun,and yes this a very good gun under water.
ROBERT E They recommend not firing out of water. The reason is that the gun needs the water to dampen the drive piston. Dry firing with break the piston.
JASON O You can NOT shoot them this way, they must be used underwater or you will ruin the air seal. The resistance provided by the water protects from this damage under the water, but "dry firing" or shooting above the surface will ruin the gun fairly quickly.
You might want to consider looking at a cross bow with fishing arrows and reel.
How old is the gun? Also, what size fish does it spear?
JASON O I have 2 of these, and I like them. Easy to load. I shoot freshwater fish...walleyes mostly. I've shot a 20lb carp with it. I put a coil line on it for quicker loading.
WILLIAM S The gun will be 4 years old to me on the 16th of July. The largest fish to date for me has been a 22 pound buffalo carp. I would say with the proper placement of the shot you would be capable of a 50 pound fish.
does the small 40cm tempest come with a holster similar to the mares mini sten?
LORIN S I DIDNT RECIEVE A HOLSTER WITH MINE, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS. TO BE ONLY A 40 CM GUN, IT HAS SUPREME STOPPING POWER FOR IT'S SIZE. I HAVE TAKEN SOME CATFISH UP TO 50 LBS WITH MINE, AND ALSO SOME GOOD MANGROVE AND RED SNAPPER OFF THE COAST OF VENICE LOUISIANA. I'D PROMOTE THIS GUN ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, IT IS A BEAST IN THE WATER.
TOM G I DONT KNOW WHY LEISURE PRO CANT ANSWER THIS SIMPLE QUESTION. THE ANSWER IS NO.
JARED S The speargun does not come with a holster but one can be easily made with a large nylon pistol holster for about $15. Works great though.
if you take off the line does it have longer range?
RONALD B yes,if you take off the line attaching the spear to the gun it would have longer range. I wouldn't however suggest that....you will more than likely lose your spear !
I replaced the stock spear retention line with a shock cord. they come in different lengths, i use a 12 ft shock cord.
I have killed and ate alot of fish with this gun, I highly recomend it.
Buxton NC - Hatteras island
DALLAS T I doubt there is a useful range beyond the length of the line, not to mention even if you could shoot a fish from that far away it won't be long before a fish swims away with your spear and they aren't that cheap to replace.
MARTIN D Yes you will have a longer range. With added pumped up pressure even more range but the trigger is harder to pull lessoning your chance for an accurate shot at a moving target. The closer the better.
MARTIN D Yes the range is longer. The pressure the gun is pumped to can give considerabley more distance but I find the trigger harder to pull and lessoning the chance for hitting a moving target.
SCOTT J Of course it has a longer range without a tether, however, you will probably lose your spear. This is a very powerful gun. I have harvested hundreds of fish with this, and most of the shots blew through both gill plates
DROP SHIP P It has a very long range. But if you need to take the line off, you should look into using line reels. because you will not be able to recover the spear.
I want a spear gun to keep aboard a cruising sailboat. I want a pneumatic one, but don't think I could fix a malfunction myself, as with a standard recoil speargun. Is this a valid concern and do the pneumatic guns stand up to long term use?
KENNETH LEE L I also smugled in a Comanche 60 cm., just in case I break the pneumatic! Always bring a backup to all you Scuba equipment. -KLM-
LeisurePro S A good pneumatic gun will last you a long time, but if it does break down (which may happen), the repairs may be a bit complicated if you are unsure of what you are doing (due to often pressurized contents). Sling guns are nice in their simplicity and can be just as powerful as pneumatics.
What lenth is the gun ?
KENNETH LEE L Tempest 50 senza is 50 cm.! -KLM-
LeisurePro S You will need to select size for that info.
i am thinking of getting this gun or one of the cressi-sub guns. I have always had bad guns and want to get a pneumatic. What is the typical speed on this gun and the range. Also how does it work.
LeisurePro S Gun strength will be based on size of gun. The gun is pneumatic and will remain pressurized even at depth. You should take an underwater hunting course before use.
does this gun hold a continus preasure, my freind in miami has a gun that never has to be filled with air except for the first time he has shot it over 3000 times over 2 years and i am wondering if this gun is the same way...
LeisurePro S This gun is the same way. Pump it only once, fire it as many times as you like.
Why Did You Choose This?
RONALD B it was suggested by a dive instructor
MARTIN D accurate with good power for big fish

The TEMPEST 50/70/ models are equipped with a power regulator. This device facilitates easier loading: moving the lever to the FORWARD position allows the loading of the gun in short strokes. The power regulation is achieved by dividing the reservoir into two sections allowing the air to be released either totally or partially. When the gun is used at its lowest power the loading is easier as only a part of the air is expanded. Tempest is a highly versatile pneumatic gun that features excellent power and balance...more

The Excalibur Sport spear gun series is the evolution of Omersub classic Excalibur speargun which was first introduced on the market at the end of the 1990s. The Sport features a shaft made in PR80 steel and standard wishbone. The most important improvement on the Excalibur spearguns, compared to their predecessor, is certainly the muzzle which has been derived from the aluminum made muzzle developed for the Aluminum speargun. The muzzle has been reinforced in some parts but has maintained the same basic advantages. Having used Nylon 66with 50% fiber glass to inject mold this part...more
