Questions about this item:
Shopper Hello. What kind of weights should be used with this vest? Would 2lb or 3lb lead weights produced by Sea Pearl fit in or do I need to order soft weights. If the latter, then which ones would you recommend?
Miyuki S It has 4 pockets that can take 2KG/1LB weights. Hard or soft weights.
Patrick B Is there any quick release mechanism for this harness?
ANDREW L There is no quick release mechanism for the vest itself and it's not absolutely necessary in this case (read explanation below). THERE IS a quick disconnect clip on the strap which which may be attached to your weight belt if desired. (I haven't found it necessary to use the belt strap; it stays in place well enough on it's own) I would have to say that the vest requires a little effort to put on / take off.
It is donned by placing it behind your waist, sliding arms inside the shoulder loops, and pulling it up and over the shoulders.
It fits snugly to the back and shoulders as it must since you don't want the weight shifting.
Bear in mind that this device is more for trim weights, unless you only need 8 lbs or less in weight. It is meant to be a secondary weight system, not the primary. It serves to distribute your overall weight profile more evenly giving better level trim when swimming horizontally. When adjusting your overall weight profile and calibrating your positive buoyancy depth, simply compensate for the amount of weight in the harness and assume it is going to remain part of you like your suit.
I have really enjoyed the product and found it very useful for evening out weight distribution, especially with thicker wet suits. I do most of my spearfishing in shallow water and it's very helpful for maintaining a level trim profile when hovering or hunting in minimal depth. I use it in the pool a lot for training also because it is less bulky than a belt. It's a simple but very functional product.
RAFAEL H I forgot, yes there is a quick release. Actually I do not lock it into my belt. This because of safety, if I need to take it out will be easier and faster so safer.
RAFAEL H I liked very much. Now I don't need to put lots of weights in my belt, I can split the load with the harness.
Patrick B Thanks guys, i was just wondering if there is a quick release. I know some harnesses do, some don't. I was looking for one with a quick release. I'm just more comfortable with something i can release easily with one hand.
TOMY S Not, you have to take off throuth arm.
GISELLE C no, there isn't. you have to take your arms off to get it. the quick release is to take the weight belt
JOHN F Patrick,
Since the Omer Sub Light Weight Harness does not fasten across the chest, no release is required.......except......
The harness fits on your back with no front closure. It does not feel it will fall off when swimming/diving, but it does slide forward to your neck. You may notice the "tail". That part needs to connect to a weight belt or other type belt to keep the harness from sliding to your neck when diving. I wear a "weight" belt with no weights, because I have a belt reel and other items I like to carry on the belt. With the harness tail attached to the belt, I am very happy. I suppose you could glue a bit of velcro to your wet suit, if you don't wear a belt. The tail attaches to a belt with a velcro loop.
Dumping the weight might take a bit longer since the tail piece which is secured with velcro might require a tug to release.
When I use a belt for weights, the weights slide up to my chest when diving. I don't understand why. Perhaps I am thin and have no belly to tighten the belt beneath. Weights sliding up to my chest was occasionally a bit disturbing! Weight on the back works better for me. I "think" I would prefer a more substantial harness. The Light Wight harness is very comfortable and does not have lots of straps like the more substantial harnesses. I don't like lots of straps either. Seems every unnecessary protrusion catches on the shooting/reel line!! haha
This works good for me, though I would like a more fixed harness, but then problems with all the straps!
Good Luck!
John H
BRYAN J No, what you see it what you get, but it does slip off easily.
JASON D No quick release, dive with a partner.
Shopper What size to put over two piece 5mm suite with 43inc chest?
JOHN F I am also 43 and use a 3 mil wet suit. Size large/xlarge fits. The harness needs to fit snug to prevent the weights shifting.
LeisurePro S I would recommend a large/xlarge.
Shopper I am interested to purchase an Omer Sub Light Weight Harness but it is not clear from the image on your site how it is worn etc. What is the strap and clip buckle hanging off it for?
JOHN F Your arms fit through the loops. The harness does not require a front closure and stays in place fine without a front closure. The strap is a loop closed with velcro, which fits around a belt......unless you glue velcro to your wet suit. Strapping to your belt keeps the harness from moving toward your neck when diving.
LeisurePro S The harness is worn backpack style (arms through the loops) and with the crotch strap running from behind and clipping in the front.
Shopper can thi s weight harness can hold 18 pounds of lead. thank you
LeisurePro S No 8lb or 4kg max

The lightweight harness is intended to be used in conjunction with a weight belt for free diving. It does not replace or substitute a diver's weight belt, but rather reduces the stress on the diver's lower back by replacing some of the weight belt weight on the waist. This is particularly important for diving in colder water where a thicker wetsuit and more weight are normally required. By using the vest less stress is on the diver's lower back and the weight is more evenly distributed around the upper body for better trim and balance while hunting. It features four pockets to carry OMER 500 g (aprox 1 lb) lead weights as well as standard belt weights. Each pocket can carry up to 4.41 lbs (2 kg). Made from stretchy double lined neoprene material with holes designed to stretch allowing insertion of small 1-2 lb (500-1000 g) regular or soft weights up to 3lbs (1.36 kg). The Lightweight Back Harness is intended to be worn by stretching over the diver's body and secured to the weight belt with an adjustable crotch strap. Harness is available in 4 sizes from Small/Medium to X-Large/2X-Large.

The first strapped fin molded using the exclusive and patented Cressi system with 3 materials. The three materials consist of a comfortable thermo-rubber (elastomer) foot pocket that extends up the side rails of the blade. The second material is the revolutionary new dual density (techno polymer) polypropylene which forms the blade, and in conjunction with the third silicone based material creates a channeling effect. The channeling effect is the characteristic of the fin that enables a high level of energy to be transferred in both up and down strokes of the kick pattern... more
