Questions about this item:
moonrock w when installing this compass in the Oceanic SWIV console what direction is the red line supposed to face ?
ROLLAND F The red line is your luber line or direction of travel. I would suggest you hold your consol in the natural position that you would use it and position the line ti be straight ahead for you. This keeps the line of travel in your natural forward position and should provide you with better use.
MICHAEL N The compass should be set so that the red line goes along the long axis of the SWIV module or in line with the small window that lets you see the numbers of the compass. This red line always points in the direction you are heading. Set the rotating bezel/dial on the heading you want and if you keep the north arrow aligned with the north on the bezel you will be on that course.
Basically it is set parallel to the direction you are pointing when using the compass.
JEFF K I installed mine perpendicular to the console. When I am holding it in my hand and navigating I am following the red line.
JAMES M That's your lubber line, when you're using the compass, you want it to be parallel to the direction you're moving. So, for some folks, it may align straight up and down in the mount and for some it could be turned slightly, it all depends on how you physically hold the compass when you're using it for navigating.
KENNETH D W I put mine facing straight in front of me (direction of travel) and compass can tell me if I stray away from that path stay on the correct heading.
CLIFFORD H The line should be oriented front to back.
NICHOLAS U lubber's line
n : a fixed line on a ship's compass indicating its heading
The edge has a red line you can look through, face that towards you, and the top line along your heading direction.
ED S That's the "lubber line". The compass should be installed with it in line with the long axis of the console. A compass installed on a ship will have the lubber line pointing toward the bow. It's just a quick reference to tell you what is straight ahead when you are using the console to navigate.
Shopper What are the mounting options for this unit?
I can not find any listing for clip or strap mount on the web site.
I have this and just need clip mount or strap mount if clip mount is not available
RICHARD D I'm not sure I can help you much, but I bought this module to replace the unit in my Oceanic ProPlus 2 computer when I lost the bezel ring in Australia; it appears that's all this one is sold as...a replacement. It was a simple replacement procedure for me, but if you don't already have a console or something to hold it in you might just have to fabricate something or check your local dive shop. Sorry.
BOB B Unfortunately, I believe that this compass isn't meant for strapping on ones wrist but is meant to be inserted into a special compass boot that attaches, via two screws, into the Oceanic computer console. It's a good compas though.
WILLIAM S I currently have this compass as part of my tri module SWIV console (SPG/ Computer /Compass). I have also seen wrist bands for this unit.
DALE G I just mounted mine in the backside boot behind my Oceanic computer.
ALAN B I'm not aware of anyone in options other than to place it directly into the console connected to the high pressure hose. It fits perfectly into that.
Shopper I have the Veo 1.0 (pressure guage and computer). Will this compass fit my console?
WILLIAM S The compass pictured fit my Oceanic SWIV console. My SWIV console accomodates the pressure guage and a computer with space for this compass on the back side.
ALAN B I'm not familiar with your console. I thought the consoles were standard sizes. I bought this compass assuming that they were and it fit perfectly. My console came with my Sherwood setup.
Alan
Shopper I have an Oceanic VEO 100. Will this fit ?
LeisurePro S Yes, the SWIV compass fits with the VEO100 console.
Shopper I have the Oceanic Maxdepth Combo Double Guage " old style" part # OCNMDC, will this fit in the opening in the back?
LeisurePro S You will need OCNSSCM which is designed for older consoles; SWIV is the newer version.
Shopper I purchased the Oceanic Veo 180 Double Gauge Dive Computer not quite 2 years ago and am wondering if this compass will fit into my computer?

Whats in the box:Oceanic SWIV Compass Module Many divers take compasses for granted, considering them just an accessory to an overall dive gauge console system. Trying to navigate with a poorly designed or improperly functioning compass can be one of diving's more frustrating events. The design team at Oceanic may have designed the best Liquid Filled Compass available today with a list of features as functional and convenient as every instrument that bears the Oceanic name. The SideScan is actually a dual purpose compass. The convenient Sde Scan Window allows Quick Reference of Large, Easy-to-Read Bearing Indicators on a Luminescent Display for Gun-Sight Accuracy. Or, for divers who prefer Relative Navigation, the Ratchet Bezel can be rotated easily even with thick neoprene gloves. The Bezel Numbers on top of the SideScan Compass are actually molded completely through the bezel ring and literally cannot be rubbed off unlike silk screened graphics. The Luminous Dial of the Sidescan is designed with a Half Black / Half Luminous Graphic to make quick work of compass direction, especially in dim light. The dial rests on a Precision Jeweled Bearing and incorporates extremely Strong Magnets for super quick response and accuracy. While the SideScan module itself is very compact, the housing has a large vertical interior allowing viewing angles that would stop other compasses in their tracks. The Compass Bezel has compass headings in 30 degrees numbered increments and indicator marks for every 10 degrees. Bezel has twin heading indicators for alignment of compass course, and a lubber line across the compass face. Compass is covered by a 12 month limited warranty.
