JASON G It's a great BCD I've been using it for years and am currently using it off the coast of Okinawa Japan. The two 5 lb max weight pouches in the back are non-ditchable. The front of the BCD has two pouches that are secured with velcro and a clip which you release and then tug out and ditch is you found yourself in that sort of situation. Real easy to use and lasts. Hope this answered your questions.

EDWIN H Yes you will have to buy weights but the weight pockets come with the bcd. I use standard lead weights like you would use on a weight belt, if you would like the coated ones they are a little more money and you can also use the soft weight bags as well. The non dumbable weights in the rear are 5lbs each side are for trim or to add extra weight if needed, I also use the standard lead weights in the back for trim. Hope this helps, thanks Ed

DANIEL A Good Question. This is a very nice unit and evenly balanced. To your question, you are correct that you can put weights in back that can stay in place. You can purchase weights or usually get them from the shop you dive with (on the boat). There is a pull for releasing the weights but having extra safety is usually a plus but not sure necessary in this case Nice unit, nice balance, nice release and control. I utilized this unit dividing down to 100+, warm water mostly and have about 450 dives on it. Great wear and tear and comfort.

DAVID J I would recommend using the pearl weights - small metal beads in a bag for the back and dump weight bads. The pockets in the back are narrow, so not sure coated weights would work, but they might. You'll have to try it. I would recommend only using 2 lbs per side on the back and a max of 5 lbs for the side dump bags. The BC get's pretty heavy if you have too much integrated weight. The amount of weight I use varies depending on my use of a dry or wet suit, but I use a weight belt also to distribute the weight more. By the way, I love the Probe. It's a heavy duty comfortable BC. Have fun!

TERRY F You can use hard or soft weights in the front and/or back the quick release pockets in the front will handle both

LAUREN H Hi, regarding the integrated weight pockets...they are very much "pockets" so technically, you can fill them up with whatever you want. However, getting shaped weights will make inserting and removing the pockets a lot easier. To "quick release", the pocket comes with a built in handle which can be 'ripped" from the velcro and dropped...no problem. As for the back weights, I have a couple of 5lb'ers in each one and it gives me perfect balance. You obviously can't drop those, but once the integrated pockets are gone, 10lbs won't mean diddly anyway.

CONRAD K The weigtts are all standard size so they will fit in the pockets or back. Unless you are doing a shore dive on your own, the dive boat will supply you with weigthts, otherwise you can by weights for your local diving, no one travels with weights.

AVIRAM L With the exception of fins/mask/snorkel/gloves/booties this was my first piece of dive gear and i still have it 4 years later. I don't know what "quick-release dump" weights are. After you get this you only need to get the lead. I have two 5 lb solid lead pieces in the back (non-dump) and the rest I evenly disburse in the pouches. You can get soft (beaded) weights if you want, but I use the single hard lead slabs (coated). It can hold 5lb sized bars (ten on each side I believe, if not more). It's very generous and secure. I recommend getting two fives for the back. Then figure out your current weight and what you need, but get them in smaller increments. So if, after the back ten lbs, you need 10 more pounds I would get two 4's and two 1's. Then two 2's. This helps you play with the weights if you go fresh/salt water, gain/lose personal weight, and/or add/remove equipment. One other thing to note, I only take my lead with me on local dives. On non-local dives (airplane rides) i just get lead at that dive shop.

TOM C The front of the vest has 2 removeable dump weight pouches which will hold any standard weight. On the back of the vest are 2 non- dump able weight pouches which can hold up to one 5 lb weight each.

HERBERT D I just bought a Large for my son who is roughly your size, His Med was getting small on him. Try the Large, especially if you dive in cold water with a heavy wetsuit. LP will exchange if it doesn't fit. This is a great BC. You will like it.

ROBERT F I like the Probe. It has lots of adjustment s for size. I am 5'10 at 275 lbs and my dive buddy has the same unit but 50 lbs lighter. I would think medium to large would work. It's a little bulky if you plan to travel with it alot. In the two seasons I've had it there is very little ware.

CONRAD K This BC has brass rather than plastic D rings, rugged holds up well. Only issue is the weight and bulk for travel in s suit case, otherwise a good BC, not sure about you size, I am 6'5 at 380 lbs and have no problem.

Weights can be added inside a Velcro waist puch on either side and then clipped into their individual compartment. It has a quick release on the two waist pouches in the event you need to dump your weight in emergency. The two weight pouches on the back of the vest cannot be dumped quickly. You would need to remove the vest for access to those weights.

DONALD B That is almost impossible to answer. What size, how much weight do you have in the pockets, what size/kind of tank? I can tell you the BC is not a good travel pack because it is heavier than other BC?s. the good news is that it will float you very high in the water if you are in trouble and face up! You can move your weights from the shoulder holders and the waist pockets to balance you and it is very easy to trim. The air dumps are easy to find and there are more than enough D rings to hang gear on.

JOHN B Scott, You dont travel with weights regardless of what you use. Use the pouches on the BC, they are more comfortable. You will get your weights wherever you are going and stick them in the pouches. Super easy. If you need to get used to the setup just wear the bc and practice pulling the pouches. The other nice thing is it gets your weights up higher, especially nice for photography.

RICHARD C no you can use belt but then dont buy weight integrated BC. I travel with this BC quite a bit. usually the boats will have weights you can use. same as asking for weight for weight belt. thousands of dives.. I like this BC rich

GEORGE S No you don't have to dive with your weight in the pockets, but I would recommend it. The only difference is rather than putting the weights on a belt, you slide the pockets out and put the weights in just before you dive. No need to carry weight when you travel.

CONRAD K I do not use the integrated weights because the bc with tank and weights is too heavy to handle from my perspective. I always use a pouch separate weight belt.

RICHARD B You should be able to use a weight belt with a weight-integrated BC, just leave the pockets out. But why? I find that the weight distribution and balance is much better with a weight-integrated BC, i.e. my feet don't seem to sink as much, it seems easier to maintain horizontal buoyancy. With my old BC and weight belt I typically found the BC around my armpits and the weight belt dragging down my hips. Pulling out and dropping the pockets in an emergengy is probably as easy as removing a belt (maybe easier because the belt could get tangled in the hoses and other stuff you may have hinging off your BC). By the way, you should never need to travel with weights, you put the weights in the pockets when on the boat.

SUZANNE D You can still you the weight belt but my question is why? Once you use the integrated weights you won't go back to the belt. You don't have to travel with weights if you use the integrated system. Just use the weights the company has. I never travel with weights that is crazy. And, I never use a weight belt. Try it you might like it. Love my Probe!!!!! Suz D.

EUGENE H You can use it with a weight belt but I find it balances better using the integrated pouches - fairly equally divided i.e. if I'm using 12 pounds I put 3 pounds in each of the pockets. Incidentally I've never seen a dive shop in hte US or Caribbean that did not provide weights for your use. Only time I need to bring weights is if I'm diving locally in a quarry.

RUSSELL M I suggest you do a web search for "OCEANIC probe youtube" and watch some videos. The integrated weight pouch is one of the main features and only contains the weights that you put into them before a dive. So you don't have to travel with weights when weights will be available. It's similar to a weight belt, where you use whatever weights are available at the time of the dive, except you slide the weight pouch in/out of the front of the BC. It's easier to use soft weights in the pouches but I've used solid weights too. You do need to make sure the weight pouch locks into place just like you have to make sure a weight belt is secure before entering the water. I normally leave the weights in the BC after the first dive on a boat until the day of diving is done, but for beach dives I slide them in/out to make it easier getting in/out of the BC so I'm not lifting the tank and weights at the same time. You might be able to use a weight belt but I think the size of the BC would probably make it more difficult than with a non-integrated BCD. The Oceanic is really good for weight distribution and you don't have to worry about weights shifting during a dive like I use to encounter with a weight belt. This is not a low profile BC but I like the buoyancy of a full jacket BC for comfort while floating on the surface. In the videos I saw online they did not show the pouches loaded with weights so it can be slightly more difficult sliding them in versus what they show with empty pouches, but even loaded with weights it's not too bad. For safety I wouldn't get carried away with weights in back pouches since they are not easily removable in an emergency requiring the dumping of weight, but a few pounds in back for distribution may be acceptable depending upon the individual. Personally I would buy the Probe LX again, although I haven't reviewed any of the newer models on the market lately.

JAMES M That would work fine, but dive boats will have weight for you to use so no need to travel with them. The pockets also distribute the weight better by using them.

GERARDO P I am 6'1" 38 waist and XL fits perfect with room to spare. Since it is adjustable you should be ok.

AVIRAM L At 6'3", 214 lbs, wait 34 the Probe, size XL. It is big on me, so I can't see you getting an XL. An L would probably be fine.

CRAIG M I would go with a large. In addition, there are a lot of adjustments on the BC to make it larger or smaller. I am 5'11 and 170lbs and I wear a large. Hope this helps.

JASON G I would recommend a large, the weight capacity is the same with all sizes so it more a matter of fit.

KEVIN R You have to purchase weights separately.

BRYAN S Hi, You need to buy weights separately. They fit into the tank strap pouches and the removeable front pockets pouches. I used Liesure Pro's velcro closure weight bags and bought recycled lead shot (google search for it). Weigh the shot into each pouch (5-7 lbs each) and write the weight with marker on the corner of the bag. That way you'll know how much each bag weighs if you should fill them differently. Or you could just buy soft weight pre-filled bags from Liesure Pro and save yourself the trouble.

BOAT E BC's never come with weights so to answer your question no it will not. I can tell you that if you do buy the Oceanic Probe you will love it. I got mine to use as a vacation one since it weighed less than my Mares Dragon and since I got it I don't use my Dragon.

JAMES D This BC has performed excellent. It does not come with weights. Each diver requires a different weight based on their own weight and buoyancy. It has two pockets (5lb max each) in the back for weight that cannot be removed during a dive unless you remove the BC (not recommended). Then in front you have two removable pouches that will hold the rest of your needed weight. These are easily accessed for an emergency accent. I would highly recommend this BC to anyone!

DONALD B When you lift it the first time you will swear that it came with some weight, however, it did not. This is just a heavy BC. On the bright side, it is a very well thought out BC. It has integrated weight pockets on the shoulders and on the stomach area. This allows you to balance yourself whether you are diving in warm or cold water as well as float you high enough at the surface so you don?t get slapped in the face by waves.

DAVID J The weights do not come with the BC. I use the pearl or bb bagged weights in the side pouches and in the back pouches. I highly recommend this BC. I find it works very well in all conditions and has been very durable.

PETER O This BC has integrated weights pockets - no need for a belt. It does not come with weights of course.

TOM C Based upon your size info I would recommend a Large. I purchased a Large and I am 5'-11" and weigh 195 lbs and I feel that the BC is just a slight bit too big for me and I find myself fighting the vest to keep the tank positioned correctly. In other words I am able to twist my chest inside of the BC with all the adjustment straps tightened completely. Don't forget you can exchange it with Leisure Pro if you get it and don't like the fit.

DAVID T I am 5' 8", 215 lbs, and I bought a M size. That works GREAT for me, I love this BCD. You might want to see if you can find a local dive store to try on sizes though before you buy... Good luck!

CHARLES H I'm 6 ft and 185 to 192 i use a medium it stops above my hips so no rubbing there. it fits like a good low profile life jacket. I like it very much. it's a little heavy though.Travels well with a nother set and both sets come in under 50 lbs in the travel bag.

RUSSELL M I haven't used doubles but my understanding is that it does support doubles provided you get a doubles backplate from oceanic to replace the standard single backplate. Check BC Owners manual at oceanicworldwide.com. The manual is not specific to the LX but it describes units with the general construction of the LX.

HERBERT D No, great BCD, but only one tank strap and I am not aware of any options to modify it for two tanks.

PAUL C Anthony My name is Paul I bought this BCD in 2009 and Had three other BCD's before this one and all I have to say is buy it, don't have to think about it. If your size is XXL and buy it and don't like it I'll buy it from you, thats how good it is. You can get the air out of it slow or fast and if you want all the air out it come out, no air left in it like some BCD fighting to go down and it fits perfect and feels perfect even with the tank on it. Plus it looks mean, like something the military would use. Best money you can spend on an item for diving.

PAUL C Anthony B my name is Paul C. I bought the Probe BCD and it was the BEST BCD I have ever owned. I had a Cressi Sub, Cobra and a Back inflation BCD just can't remember the name but they all did not work and feel like the Probe. If you are a size XXL and buy it and do not like it I will buy it from you that how much I love this BCD. If they discountinue this BCD, I will buy several of them just to have them, I will not use anything else.

EDWIN H Anthony, I have the Probe LX in a size large and the low pressure inflator hose that connects to the low pressure side of the first stage is 28" long. The actual larger dia. low pressure inflation device hose is 18" at the low pressure fitting. Hope this helps. Thanks Ed

TOM C The low pressure hose which comes on the Oceanic Probe was too short. I purchased an extended version (approx 24"). This not only enables you to inflate your BC manually better but also allows easier buddy breathing giving you a little more distance. I would even recommend a slightly longer one than I have if it is available. Too long however can be a pain with it bouncing off the sea bottom. TC

David R Everything listed above is compatible. All the hoses are included . There are always many accessories you might want liek console holders, Octo holders etc

RICHARD D I love this and have used it a lot. I haven't flown with it, but travel about 5-6 hours to the beach and it's really no problem. It is a bit more bulky than many other cheaper products that I've seen, but you could easily fit it in a roller bag with your other gear and head to Figi :)

MARK F The oceanic probe is a great bc. It has lots of nice features. It packs easy maybe a little heavy but durable 5 years and over a hunderd dives with no visible signs of wear. I dont think you could go wrong with this one. I would buy it again in a heartbeat !

RUSSELL M It is a little bulky but not too bad versus alternatives. I'm sure others have a smaller footprint but I don't like the ones that try to face plant you while floating in the water or require you to float on your back.

CONRAD K It is bulky and heavy. Since the airlines started charging for extra weight, I went back to my old BC which is lighter. It is an excellent BC but just too heavy for travel in my opinion.

BURTON S Compared to other, low-profile BCD's, the Probe is a little heavier, bulkier and stiffer. On the flip side, I've found them to be extremely durable, both for withstanding rough handling, and for tolerating the sun and salt. So while you may grumble about hauling it around, it won't wear out anytime soon.

GERARDO P Travel wise is just like most bc in size. But for me this bc has everything you would need as a diver. Ive used it for 4 years without any problems and works and looks as good as new. You wont be dissapointed.

EUGENE H I'm 6'5 and 280# bought it because it covered that size. That said it travels fine for a full size BD. Lots of pockets and attachment points and the handle is handy for setting your gear up - easy on and off a tank.

CONRAD K I have a US Divers reg that is over 27 years old and a Scuba Pro that is new, both were compatable with this BC.

RICHARD D Yes, it is compatible with any reg. This is a great BCD by the way; I've had it for years and used it on about a hundred dives and it's still in great shape. You'll love it if you decide it's the one for you.

KEVIN K The inflator hose can be changed on your regulator at your local dive shop should there be a compatibility issue.

EMMETT T I do not know definatively but the hook up for the low pressure inlet is standard. I have used an aqua long hose and also a Oceanic.

KEVIN L I believe this BCD is compatible with any regulator. Just be sure to order a standard quick disconnect hose for your reg to connect to your BCD (if you dont already have this setup) . This BDC, from my experience is a great product. I highly recommend to anyone who wants a lot of extra features. If you are looking for a compact travel BCD i suggest looking and some other Oceanic BDCs with a few less "bells and whistles".
